Element: Accessibility Standard for Customer Service

Standard

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) was introduced to improve opportunities for people with disabilities. It is also intended to provide for the involvement of people with disabilities in the identification, removal, and prevention of barriers to enhance their full participation in the life of the province. In order to achieve these goals, the AODA mandates to prepare an annual accessibility plan.

Advanced Building Materials Inc. is a construction products retail outlet located in Sarnia, Ontario. Our vision, mission, and values incorporate an expressed desire and commitment to good, responsible, and respectful business processes.

Advanced Building Materials Inc. is committed to excellence in serving all customers, including people with disabilities.

Communication

Advanced Building Materials will communicate with people with disabilities in ways that take into account their disability. We welcome people with disabilities and their service animals. Service animals are allowed on the parts of our premises that are open to the public. A person with a disability who is accompanied by a support person will be allowed to have that person accompany them on our premises.

In the event of a planned or unexpected disruption to services or facilities for customers with disabilities, Advanced Building Materials will notify customers promptly. This notice will include information about the reason for the disruption, its anticipated length of time, and a description of alternative facilities or services, if available. All notices pertaining to customers with disabilities will be posted on our company website and a notice will be placed on the counter of the showroom.

Training

Advanced Building Materials will provide training to employees who deal with the public. Training will also be provided to people involved in the development of policies, plans, practices and procedures related to the provision of our goods and services. Training will be provided to staff within 6 months of their date of hiring.

Training will include:

An overview of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and the requirements of the customer service standard.

  • Advanced Building Materials’ plan related to the customer service standard
  • How-to interact and communicate with people with various types of disabilities
  • How to interact with people with disabilities who use an assistive device or require the assistance of a service animal or a support person
  • How to use the ramps
  • What to do if a person with a disability is having difficulty in accessing Advanced Building Materials’ goods and services
  • Staff will also be trained when changes are made to the accessible customer service element

Evaluation

Customers who wish to provide feedback on the manner in which Advanced Building Materials provides goods and services to people with disabilities can email Norm Williams at n.williams@advancedbuildingmaterials.com. All feedback, including complaints, will be passed on to ownership and customers can expect to receive a response within 30 days.

Management in consultation with the Health and Safety representative shall evaluate this element at least annually. Any policy that does not respect and promote the dignity and independence of people with disabilities will be modified and or removed from the policies of Advanced Building Materials Inc.

Acknowledgement

Management will acknowledge the success of this element at company functions, through safety meetings and written communication. Advanced Building Materials will acknowledge changes. improvements. statistics and the compliance of employees with regard to the accessibility standard for customer service.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
